another excellent post Noemie!!!

Your 18 hours story reminds me of a questions I asked a class full of 17 year olds - I asked them about their screen time. It was a fairly new feature and not many of them knew about it.

They were all doing their A levels and time and focus was an important cog in the learning machine!

Most of them used their phone over the course of a week on social media for about an average of 15 hours. But one student was on snapchat for over 24 hours in a week - just snapchat, not including instagram and Facebook (which admittedly was on the wain with youngsters) I think in total they were on socials for around 35 hours....in a week!!!

They were all surprised at the time they spent scrolling when they should be focusing on studies and rest.

A couple of months later the student told me they reduced their social media use alot and ended up being able to focus more on studies and came out with some decent grades that otherwise, they wouldn't have attained.

A long comment but social media use really peaks my attention....

Thank you for sharing Paul! That's mental though, 35 hours?! We can't be giving these addictive devices/apps to developing brains and expect positive outcomes, good for this kid to be able to reduce it and focus on what matters but I worry for those who have zero boundaries with their devices. It's hard for me in my 40s, how to expect a child/teenager to manage their screen times?

Yeah it’s difficult - we keep reminding our children about the issues around phone use and my eldest daughter I have her phone locked down so she has to send me a request to use messages, internet. She cant even add apps. It’s as dumb of a phone I can make it for the vast majority of its time.

18 hours! WOW. Not judging you, just how crazy these digital distractions can suck us.

I spent 3 hours one night on Reddit. Started off as an interesting reading topic, ended up reading more of the same over and over. It's amazing. Thanks for being honest about it :)

Trying to keep it real! Isn't it so easy to get lost in rabbit holes on these apps, especially Reddit!

It's such a small thing but makes a big difference! I'm always flabbergasted when I see families at restaurants and every single person, including the parents, on their phones!!
